A different kind of Scientists in Synagogues weekend: Making Engineering Storytelling Devices (Automata)

Sunday, September 15, 2024 12 Elul 5784

10:00 AM - 12:00 PMBeth Jacob Congregation | 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights, MN 55118

Join us as we explore engineering and design, storytelling and art with an exciting D’var Torah on Shabbat morning September 14th and a fun hands-on workshop for builders and makers of all ages on Sunday September 15th.

The Sunday workshop will engage participants of all ages (some with adult help) in engineering, Jewish stories, and art. The engineering activity will be centered around the creation of an automaton to show a scene from a story. For hundreds of years, people have designed and created mechanical machines called automata that move and mimic humans, animals, and plants. Wheels, levers, and linkages work in tandem to create singing birds, bicyclers, and even wing-flapping ducks. Join us to create your own mechanical marvel based on a Jewish story.

Registration required, please submit the form below. Doors will be open until 10:15am to enter the event.
