Restoring Land, Restoring Tradition: Regenerative Farming and Ethical Kosher Slaughter at Avodah Farm

Sunday, August 27, 2023 10 Elul 5783

2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Avodah Farm, N2843 County Rd E, Stockholm, WI 54769

Come see how Beth Jacob members, Martha and Geoffrey Black, are harnessing the natural behaviors of chickens and cows to improve their pastures and sequester carbon in their soil. Walk through the life cycle of an Avodah Farm chicken from brooder coop to pasture to kosher slaughter, and learn how the practice of shechita guides us toward authentic connection with the animals and ecosystems that nourish us. This event is co-sponsered by Beth Jacob's Climate Action Committee.

No chickens will be slaughtered during this field day but frozen chickens, as well as farm fresh eggs, will be available to purchase and take home.

Farm tour will be followed by an optional potluck dinner featuring Avodah Farm chicken. Bring a pareve dish to share.

Bio: Martha and Geoffrey Black started Avodah Farm as a vegetable CSA, but pivoted to livestock to better care for themselves, their sons, and their soil. They have raised laying hens since 2012, grass-fed beef cattle since 2016, and chickens for kosher slaughter since 2021, the year Martha received her kabbalah as a Shochetet.
