Nerot of Renewal, Recovery and Hope

Soon we’ll begin to light our hanukkiot and tell the story of Hanukah, a story of hope and renewal. Hanukah reminds us that each flicker of flame makes the world a little less dark.  Now more than ever, we need more light and hope in our world. 

For many years now, Beth Jacob has launched our largest fundraising campaign of our fiscal year in the month of December with a match donation. This year, we do not have a match and yet we still have a need to raise a large amount of funds. We’ve set a goal to raise $90,000 and already have a pledge of $10,000, allowing us to light up the shamash (helper candle) on our Nerot of Renewal Challenge. Instead of a thermometer, we’ll light up the candles (nerot) of our hanukiah!  Every $10,000 raised will light up another candle until they are all lit. We may not have a large match, but we have a flickering flame, a beautiful and loving community. 

We want to continue to build on the progress that’s been made in the last year after several difficult transitions. Beth Jacob has strived to be the place you can turn to for community, not just these last few difficult years, but throughout our entire history.  The synagogue takes money to function, but it runs on community support and time. Please participate this month. Every donation is important. We have seen people step up over and over again to make this community work, and I know we can get there together.
